Extra DUI Patrols In Marin For Super Bowl Weekend

Extra DUI Patrols In Marin For Super Bowl Weekend - Marin DUI Lawyer Blog Marin DUI Lawyer Blog Published by Marin, California DUI Attorney Law Office of John Stanko, Inc. The multi police agency DUI enforcement team, "Avoid the Marin 13" will be putting extra officer out this weekend to look for drunk drivers. Football fans on Super Bowl Sunday had better not drink and drive as the police will be on heightened alert.

Police officers encourage people to not drink and drive. If you chose to drink then arrange for a designated driver or a safe ride home. An arrest for a DUI starts a long and expensive process that can result in the automatic administrative suspension of a person's driving privilege, probation, fines, possible jail time and mandatory attendance at a DUI school. The length of the DUI school depends on a person's blood alcohol level and whether they have any prior convictions. There is only one DUI school in Marin County, in San Rafael.

If you are arrested for drunk driving, or if you get a traffic ticket in Novato, San Rafael, Sausalito, or anywhere in Marin County call an experienced aggressive traffic ticket and DUI defense attorney for help.

For more information about driving under the influence, traffic or criminal charges in Marin County, San Francisco and throughout the Bay Area, or for a free consultation, call attorney John Stanko at 415-755-8899, or toll free at 1-877-204-8900.

Field sobriety tests could impact you this weekend

A few weeks ago, we talked about the implied consent law here in Minnesota. Basically what this law means is that if you are legally arrested for driving under the influence, you must give a blood, breath or urine test. You do not have a right to refuse this. We bring this up because with the Labor Day weekend upon us, there will be plenty of people who are dealing with law enforcement over the weekend, and they need to know their rights.

Since Aug. 13, the police have been performing a massive crack down of drunk driving. You have probably seen ads or announcements for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign during this time, and even leading up to this period of enforcement.

But this weekend, things will get serious as the Labor Day weekend is considered one of the most dangerous driving weekends of the year. Many people are traveling for vacation, and many people are enjoying a few drinks during this time. You shouldn't combine those two activities, but if you do, you still have rights.

Beyond the implied consent law, remember that you may be asked to perform a field sobriety test, may it be at a checkpoint or after a traffic stop. These field sobriety tests have come under scrutiny recently, as they involve the suspected person performing tasks that no person would ever perform, whether they are sober or not. Therefore, they are unlikely to fulfill or complete these tasks simply because they are foreign to them -- not necessarily because they are intoxicated.

DUI Checkpoints This Weekend

DUI Checkpoints will be setup on roadways in Central Pennsylvania this weekend. Yet another waste of resources on a tactic that does nothing but inefficiently enforce the law. If you are serious about drunk driving enforcement, you do roving patrols. They are repeatedly shown to be more effective and a lot more efficient. Static roadblocks (DUI checkpoints) are nothing more than inefficient tactics that harass innocent law abiding people, including lawfully socially responsible drinking drivers, into fearfully embracing a neo-prohibition agenda of: don’t drink and drive. They are a wonderful means of generating revenue for the officers involved, who frequently got overtime and “court time” for non-DUI enforcement traffic or equipment tickets, and for municipalities and states when they issue nuisance tickets.

6a0105367eb457970b0133f160cd47970bIn an effort to frighten would-be drunken drivers into acting responsibly at Halloween-themed parties this weekend, DUI checkpoints will be set up on three roadways in the midstate.

Funded with federal highway safety grants through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Center for Traffic Safety will run three checkpoints on three separate, unannounced roadways in York, Lancaster and Adams counties from Friday through Sunday, according to a press release issued Wednesday.

The checkpoints will begin around 6 p.m. Friday and will run continually until 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the release.

Costa Mesa Memorial Day weekend DUI Checkpoint results in One (1) DUI arrest

English: A sobriety checkpoint in East Haven, ... Another weekend, another sobriety checkpoint, another ten thousand in officer overtime.

Costa Mesa Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on May 26, 2012, at W. 19th Street and Pomona Ave., between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.

DUI Checkpoints statistically are not even nearly as effective as DUI Saturation Patrols in apprehending and arresting persons actually driving under the influence.  However, since all the federal, state, and MADD funding is done to support DUI checkpoints, law enforcement prefers them for monetary reasons.  The statistics for this DUI checkpoint, with a 0.00187% arrest rate, bear this out yet again.  Ah, politics.

The checkpoint resulted in the following:
532 Vehicles through the checkpoint
532 Vehicles Screened
1 DUI-Alcohol suspect arrested
0 DUI-Drug impaired suspect arrested

The Thousand Oaks Police Department will set up a DUI and driver's license checkpoint at an undisclosed location from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Sunday, July 3rd

Although we couldn’t find any actual DUI / driver’s license checkpoints set up for Sunday, July 3, 2011, there are going to be DUI saturation and roving patrols throughout the state.

Monday, July 4th

The LAPD will be operating a sobriety checkpoint from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in LAPD’s West Los Angeles Area on Pacific Coast Highway at Temescal Canyon Road.
